Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the gold-standard treatment for spider veins and small-to-medium varicose veins. A fine needle injects a sclerosant solution directly into the targeted vein, causing it to scar, collapse, and gradually fade over 4–8 weeks.

The procedure takes 15–45 minutes in our office. No anesthesia is required and you can drive yourself home and resume normal activities immediately.

  • Most effective for spider veins and reticular veins
  • No downtime — walk out immediately
  • Multiple veins treated per session
  • Ultrasound-guided option for deeper veins
  • Results visible in 4–8 weeks
Advanced Option

ClariVein® (MOCA)

ClariVein is a mechanochemical ablation (MOCA) device that combines two mechanisms in one: a rotating wire tip mechanically damages the vein lining while simultaneously delivering a liquid sclerosant. This dual action achieves high closure rates without heat or tumescent anesthesia.

ClariVein is especially well-suited for medium-to-large varicose veins where thermal ablation is less ideal — including near-superficial veins where nerve injury risk exists.

  • No heat — no thermal nerve injury risk
  • No tumescent anesthesia needed
  • Excellent for superficial or near-surface veins
  • High closure rates comparable to thermal ablation
  • Less post-procedure bruising than surgery
  • Same-day procedure, walk out immediately

Sclerotherapy & ClariVein FAQs

What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical treatment where a sclerosant solution is injected directly into spider veins or small varicose veins. The solution irritates the vein wall, causing it to collapse and fade over several weeks.

What is ClariVein and how does it differ from sclerotherapy?

ClariVein (MOCA) combines a rotating catheter tip that mechanically damages the vein wall while simultaneously delivering a sclerosant. It requires no heat or tumescent anesthesia and is ideal for medium-sized varicose veins.

How many sclerotherapy treatments will I need?

Most spider vein patients require 2–4 sessions. ClariVein for varicose veins may be completed in 1–2 sessions. Your specialist will create a personalized plan at your free consultation.

Is sclerotherapy painful?

Sclerotherapy involves very fine needle injections that cause only a slight stinging sensation. The procedure is well-tolerated with no anesthesia required. Post-treatment side effects may include mild bruising or temporary redness.
